{Fourth of July Mantel Decor}

We are in countdown mode around here...
only a week until we are lounging beachside, listening to the waves & soaking up the sunshine!!

I only have a week left of grad school and I'm so incredibly excited to be wrapping it all up.

But before we leave for the beach, I wanted to share our Fourth of July decor that we have around the house so far.
I didn't go all out for it but I made a few changes on the mantel that made all the difference.

If you remember my spring mantel I shared a few months ago, you can see that a lot of it stuck around to make up the bulk of the mantel.
I just added a few pieces to make it sing a little more red, white & blue.

I whipped up a quick 'In God We Trust' sign from old pallet wood and a few burlap & fabric stars.
It was a quick & easy project but I love the rustic americana it brings.

The blue 'freedom' block was from my 4th of July centerpiece I put together last year.
And my little mason jar got a little star love too with some fabric stars I attached to wooden dowels.

The flag was a fun distressed piece I made. I just can't get enough of distressed signs :)

The 'home of the brave, land of the free' was a free printable I shared a couple years ago.
You can get your own here

Lastly, I added a 'freedom' banner I made from linen & twine. The same fabric stars from my pallet sign were used on the banner too.

How are you liking my fourth decor?
I"m loving having a little bit of patriotic flair around.

Are you decorating a bit for the holiday?

Hope you guys are having a great week, check back tomorrow for some fun & colorful fourth of July printables you can use in your own decor!!

{Father's Day GIft Idea} 'Daddy' Handprint Sign

Father's day is, what?
Four days out?

If you're anything like me,
I'm always racking my creative little brain to figure out something for Father's Day.
It's just not as easy to get something fun & easy for those dads in your life as it is for a momma.
They don't appreciate the 'cute-ness' of things as much as we do :)

This Father's day, I wanted something that the kids helped with but also something that would stick around a little longer than a drawn picture or a handprint on a mug.
Though those are always a hit :)

I decided to make something with...handprints...
Yep, I'm original.
But with a little spin on it.

Just hold on... check it out...

It's a handprint sign :)
How cute is it?
And the kids had so much fun helping me get it done.

Instead of the tried-and-true painted handprints, I decided to utilize my little dremel and make some handprints right into the wood.

I started with these scrap pieces of wood I pulled from the garage:

They were given a thick coat of bright white & then I hand-stenciled the letters for both 'daddy' and 'poppy'.
The fun part is to customize them with your guy's favorite color or to go with your decor :)
I love bright, hand-painted signs.

To make the handprints, I traced both the kids hands on either side of the board.
Little miss was on the right & little man went on the left.

After I traced them in pen, I went over them with the wood-carving tip that came with my dremel.
Putting my birthday gift to good use :)

I love, love, love how easy it is to use.
I have another fun & way easy project to share using my dremel soon!!

If you don't have access to a dremel, you can trace over the prints with a paint pen or even grab a wood-burning kit from Micheals to get a similar effect.

I love the dremel tip because it carves right into the wood and is super easy to control.
Now, we have a permanent reminder of their little six-year old hands :)

If you're doing multiple prints, be sure to mark on the back which side is which kid.
I think it'd be super cute to do a longer board & have handprints lined up along the side.

After carving the handprints, I went over the whole sign with my sander to give a distressed look.

Poppy has already been given his and it was a hit.
I think mimi was a little jealous so I'm keeping it in my back-pocket as next year's mother's day gift.
It'd be super cute to have a matching 'mimi' and 'poppy' sign, huh?

Daddy is going to love seeing his kid's hands too :)

What do you think?
It's traditional with a twist, which is right up my alley :)
Hope this helped give some quick inspiration for you to get ready for Father's day!!

Happy Wednesday everyone...halfway through the week- woot!!

Candy Shoppe Birthday Party {FREE} Printables!!I

If you've been hanging around the past couple days, you've already seen all things Candy Shoppe!!
This was seriously my favorite party to do yet- there were so many fun details to play with :)

If you haven't had  a chance to check out all the picture eye candy, you can check out the entire party here and a close, detailed look at our DIY candy shoppe here.

But of course, one of my favorite part about doing parties is coming up with fun printable packs!!!
They're definitely one of my favorite things to create because I get to share them with all of YOU!

So, if you're thinking about doing your own candy shoppe birthday, then hopefully these will be a great help to you!
Check out the Candy Shoppe Printable Pack I created as free downloads for you guys!!

Remember the cute cupcake toppers?
Well, they are super easy to make!
Grab a circle punch, print the free printables out below & hot glue to the candy sticks from a craft store like Hobby Lobby.
Instant cute-ness!!

There are four different prints to choose from, the three that can be personalized are left blank for you to add your own numbers & phrases!
{Click below to download your cupcake toppers}

I created two different signs to possibly hang on the front door.
The 'party around back' was for if it didn't rain to direct people to the backyard- didn't happen though :/
So I also have a 'come on in' sign as well!

Click to download 'come on in' party sign!

To create the sign I used for the centerpiece, I just added 'Ryan's sweet shoppe' to a blank sign.
So of course, I made you a blank sign as well so you can make signs and labels to your heart's content :)

And one of my favorite details at the party were the personalized water bottles!!
I created the printable and then used Microsoft Word to print them on cardstock... I find it a million times easier to size things that are trickier there.
You can use cardstock like I did or laminate yours for a label that will hold up a bit longer.
Mine worked great for the party though :)

DIY Candy Shoppe

Did you guys get a chance to check out little man's candy shoppe birthday party I shared last week?

I'm super excited to share a little more about the star of the show (besides little man himself!) which made such a huge, and fun, impact on the party.

If you checked out my party post, you caught a couple glimpses of it but I thought we could get a little more up close and personal with it today :)

Check out our little DIY candy shoppe in all it's red & blue gorgeousness...

Isn't it the cutest thing you've ever seen?
Ok. well I'm a bit biased :)

But it did turn out pretty darn cool if I do say so myself!!

My sweet hubby made the frame for me out of simple plywood.
I came home one day and my sketches had come to life on the driveway :)
That man is pretty amazing....

We added a little shelf under the cut-out window and even added cute metal shelf brackets from Lowes to spice it up.
We decided it needed a little more of a whimsy factor and used our jigsaw to cut out some scallops for the top.

The kids even pitched in to give it a coat of pretty blue :)

Then came the best part...adding all the fun accessories and little details.
I found some cute shutters in my stash and painted them red to add to the sides of the windows.
They might have been my favorite random touch :)

The cute metal 'candy shop' sign came from Hobby Lobby and it's hung with a simple nail so I can make other signs and switch them out easily.
I figured it'd be fun if it could be easily transformed into other fun things like a lemonade stand... or a vet's office. The sky is the limit, right??

I loved having the excuse to pull out cute things from my stash to jazz it up.
My vintage coca-cola cooler was perfect for sitting right under the window ledge.

I created a jumbo chalkboard with some scrap molding to add a cute chalkboard menu.
I just painted the chalkboard directly onto the plywood.

I cut a mustache shape out of plywood with my jigsaw and gave it a coat of chalkboard paint.
It served as the perfect 'open' sign

I love all the blues & reds together- they make for the perfect amount of whimsy and fun.

Can you tell that we had just a little bit of fun getting it all ready?
The kids squealed when they came home from school and saw it sitting in the driveway.

It's amazing what some pieces of plywood and 2x4's can become, huh?
So much potential :)
Check out the dramatic before & after!!

So there ya have it, the heart & soul of our little candy birthday!
We had so much fun creating it and it was so worth the time & effort put into it to see how much the kiddos loved playing with it.

I love that it can be transformed into other fun places with just a few changes and a new sign :)
I can't wait to see what the kids decide to make it become this summer!!

If you'd like to see more from the candy shoppe birthday, check it out here

Hope you enjoyed the little tour around our little candy shoppe!
Happy monday, sweet friends!!!!
